About Dr. Wesley
Robert Chapman Wesley Jr. is the eldest child born to a family physician and an English teacher in rural Virginia. Having skipped a grade and still number one in his class the following year, he accepted the challenge of being one of two black students to integrate the prestigious Hill School of Pottstown, Pennsylvania the next year. He was again first in his class and went on to excel in both athletics and academics.
Dr. Wesley attended Yale College as a Yale National Scholar and graduated with highest honors in the History of Fine Arts. He later completed Yale University School of Medicine. After residency at The Graduate hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was voted the most outstanding resident, he completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Virginia. There he received a Physician Scientist Award from the National Institute of Health and co-authored two biomedical patents.
He then moved to the University of California at Irvine where he served as Assistant Dean, Director of Cardiovascular Education, and Associate Professor of Medicine. At the Long Beach V.A. Medical Center, he was Director of the Clinical Electrophysiology Laboratory.
Dr. Wesley also served as Professor of Medicine, Director of Cardiovascular Education, and Chief of the Cardiology Section in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Nevada School of medicine, before founding New Life Cardiology in Las Vegas. He is board certified in Cardiology and Cardiac Electropyhsiology.
In addition to his academic pursuits and medical practice, Dr. Wesley has maintained a strong interest and an active role in increasing public awareness on relevant social issues . He served in the national leadership of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) for 10 years and for 3 years as Co-President of the Los Angeles Chapter. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on behalf of PSR as well as the International Physicians of the Prevention of Nuclear War, winner of l985 Nobel Peace Prize. For his work against gun violence, he received The Children's Defense Fund Award in Washington, D.C. on November 15, 1995.
Over the years, Dr. Wesley has developed and cultivated remarkable skills and tastes. He has studied clinical hypnosis for over 15 years and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He has worked as a teaching fellow at the Institute do Cardiologia in Porto Alegre, Brazil, has studied Haitian Art in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and has participated in the running of a non-profit jazz club in Philadelphia (The Foxhole Cafe). He has studied Hatha Yoga and actively advocates a vegetarian diet. He is a represented writer. Oliver Stone served briefly as his writing mentor while in Los Angeles.
Regarding the founding of New Life Cardiology in Las Vegas Nevada, Dr. Wesley states: "Our aim is not simply to reverse the process of disease, but rather to optimize health and well-being. All aspects of the patient must be considered. Essential to this path is the cultivation of relationship and the harnessing of powerful thoughts and affirmations."
